Art & Culture

Karl’s magnificent palace still houses the region’s treasures! The palace is now home to the Badische Landesmuseum (Baden State Museum) and its legendary collection, split into 14 departments. Its treasures include a cabinet full of coins, the renowned “Turkish spoils” (Ottoman handicrafts), and countless works of art - some dating back 5,000 years!

Karlsruhe has been a supporter of the arts from the very beginning; each year, tens of thousands visit its art shows (art KARLSRUHE and the Karlsruhe Künstlermesse) and stroll excitedly through the many galleries and museums. The ZKM | Center for Art and Media continuously displays new examples of fresh creativity. The people of Baden also know how to let their hair down; hundreds of thousands come to the open air music festival DAS FEST every summer, and the Tollhaus hosts great musical and theatrical performances throughout the year.

Art lovers and museum visitors will have plenty to do in Karlsruhe – from the Baden State Museum to the State Museum of Natural History, to the State Art Gallery and the Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe (ZKM – Zentrum für Kunst und Medien).
